Bob Martin

Im going to finish my final blog with another sports photographer, so anyone looking at my profile can remember me with sports. The final photographer goes by the name of Bob Martin, who is a multi-award-winning sports photographer who specializes in action, graphic, and editorial pictures for advertising, corporate and editorial clients. Bobs career has been going on for over 20 years now and has photographed pretty much every major sporting event from elephant polo to horse racing on ice J He’s even attended the last 10 summer and Para Olympics. Bob’s photographs have been published in some of the worlds most respected outlets, like sports illustrated such as TIME, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED,LIFE, SUNDAY TIMES, and even THE NEW YORK TIMES. Here’s a fact for you currently Bob is the only sports illustrated staff contributor to be based outside the US, which is rather surprising since the sports action photography community is today rich with inspiration and artistry, and is becoming extremely competitive. Bob Martin and Tom Jenkins are easily the most inspirational sports photographers the country has, the awards the two have been awarded during their career is un real at some times however hugely inspirational.

Here’s a few photograph taken by Bob Martin, hope you enjoy.

Dave Nitsche

Dave is a conceptual photographer who i have only recently come across. In fact it is fair to say Dave has only recently come across photography himself, having bought his first camera in 2002. From then on Dave got more and more into photography, however mainly photographing objects in his cellar. It eventually got to the stage where, apart from work, all Dave did was shoot stuff in his cellar. Now you may be thinking why is he photographing things in his cellar, since there's so many things out there needing to be photographed. But Dave likes to find ways to give out human emotions with objects. A photograph with a concept behind it, conceptual photography. And this is what he does so well, the idea's behind some of these photographs is pure genius, if you think you have a creative way of thinking then i highly recommend looking through his portfolio, highly impressive and very inspirational with his simple idea, which bring out their strong emotions. I completely new to this form of photography, conceptual photography, a photograph with a concept behind it. However i have become very fond of the genre, mainly because of the work of Dave's. However being able to say i believe i have a creative mind, maybe not the most intellectual but creative, i have created my own collection of photographs with meanings behind them, and im very proud of them. I recommend anyone looking into this type of photography, since its very fun and rewarding when you think of a clever idea that interprets a meaning.

Grant Smith

This blog is going to be about Grant Smith and his recent campaign for photographers. Grant is an award-winning architectural and construction photographer. However it is said that Grant was harassed by the police when he was taking photographs of a church in London. Grant says "surrounded, questioned then searched by seven officers” Taking his revenge grant decided to start a campaign called ' I'm a Photographer, not a terrorist, which has been supported by hundreds of photographers and photography right activists groups. I’m a photography, not a terrorist is not just for photographers but anyone which values visual imagery, which most people do, being a reason why the campaign has been so popular. Smith and his followers took the campaign to the streets, with a peaceful protest in hope that the government will change their ways. During their protest their decided to take photographs of buildings then ran away, causing problems to security guards. Security guards in the past have been preventing people from legally photographing buildings. To me this is crazy, people have the right to document life, and that is what their simply doing. Im going to post a video about the protest in london, think you will find it quite interesting, hope you enjoy.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS6FY_6Klhc&feature=player_embedded

Tom Jenkins

I going to talk to you about a few photographers who are a huge inspiration to me. Being a big sports fan, photographing for a newspaper like the guardian at some of the biggest events around, example the Olympics would be a dream job. Well that’s the job of Tom Jenkins, sports photographer for the guardian. Jenkins’s is constantly winning awards every year, this year however Jenkins’s picked up Para Olympic portfolio of the year, sport's news picture of the year and sports portfolio of the year.
What ever event it is what ever sport it is no matter how far, if the guardian want the event documenting, Jenkins’s is always the man for it. The guardian know that Tom wont come back unless his got world class action shots for them, his so reliable, sometimes it seems unreal. The amount of sports Jenkins’s has covered over his photography carer is unbelievable, I can imagine what his portfolio would look like, hundreds and hundreds of top class action shots. Here a few photographs of his world class sport photography anyways, hope you enjoy viewing just as much as I do.

August Sander

August Sander was a German photographer who loved documenting fellow Germans. August had a huge passion for nature mainly down to his mother who is a herbalist, who often took him foraging for wild plants. August gave up the studio to go travailing on bike where he photographed people he came upon. During the 1920s and 1930s August came under pressure from the Nazi's who destroyed his photographic plates from the book face of our time which included 60 portraits from his travels. However during the seconded war, August managed to escape from Cologne and save many of his negatives.

I decided to include one of the 60 portraits from the book, face of our time. I’ve chosen this image especially because of the shear age of the boy. No way could you be able to say that this is a man ready for war. A man ready to kill and die for his country, surely not. A young, gullible child, who's about to be departed to fight a war which he has no idea how it was caused. This child is at most 16 years old, i would love to know his feelings about what he fought about the war at the time.

Robert Frank

Robert Frank

Its fair to say that Robert Frank was easily one of the most influential photographers during the mid 20th century. Frank is an American Photographer, however born in Zurich, Switzerland. Franks best known by his series called ‘The Americans’ but was a successful fashion photographer for
Harper’s Bazaar magazine in Paris before he moved to the United States, where he experimented with different types of photography. Frank became the first non-American to be awarded with the Guggenheim Fellowship in photography, which funded his journey across the America. After Frank’s year long trip he had taken 2700 photographs. Which back then is a great achievement, especially with the sheer class of those photographs. Only 83 of those photographs were actually used in his book of ‘The Americans’

Franks photographs have an unique however strange style to them, there are characterized with bold composition. Because of Franks unique style, his photographs were not immediately appreciated and respected. At first art critics were far from impressed with his work for being ‘seemingly loose and casual compositions’ photographs were often with out of focus foregrounds and tilted horizons. Many people often refused to write about his work that’s probably why the book The Americans wasn’t so successful straight away.
